Bringing Advanced Brain and Spine Surgery to Patients in the Bronx Community

Dr. Narayan Sundaresan, Chief, Neurosurgery.

During the past two years, Bronx-Lebanon's Neurosurgery Service has developed into a tertiary center that performs the most advanced and complex brain and spine surgery procedures. Its team of highly skilled and board certified surgeons, under the direction of Dr. Narayan Sundaresan, is capable of handling all trauma and stroke related problems, as well as complex brain tumors, herniated discs, degenerative spine, and other related conditions.

In addition to Dr. Sundaresan, the Neurosurgery team includes Dr. Arturo Camacho, a specialist in complex spine and vascular neurosurgery; Dr. Ramesh Babu, a specialist in skull base and pituitary tumors, trigeminal neuralgia, and aneurysm surgery; and Dr. Richard Radna, a specialist in advanced minimally invasive and microneurosurgery of the spine. This team is supported by highly trained physician assistants, nurses, and administrative staff.

Bronx-Lebanon now performs an extensive number of complex neurosurgical procedures, among the largest for hospitals in the Bronx. In addition, Bronx-Lebanon, through its neurosurgery service, has also become a center for Disc Replacement surgery. Plans for the future include establishing Stereotactic Radiosurgery for treatment of brain and spine tumors.

At Bronx-Lebanon, neurosurgery services are offered at the inpatient and ER levels (24/7), as well as at the Bronx-Lebanon Health and Wellness Center and Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Health Center Service Network locations.

“We have established a high performing neurosurgery service in the Bronx, and as a result, are projecting a 25% growth rate annually,”
