Advanced Robotic Surgery offers the benefit of smaller incisions, less complications, and a shorter length of stay. Minimally invasive surgery represents an important alternative to open surgery. The surgeon “sees” with the camera and controls the surgical instruments using this advanced technology.

Our surgeons operate on patients by using only a few small incisions. The robot provides the benefit of a 3-Dimensional Vision System, as well as instruments that rotate and provide more precise movements than the human wrist. Among the procedures performed are removals of fibroid tissue (robotic myomectomy) without removing the uterus, and hysterectomies. These procedures offer a shorter recovery and decreased blood loss.

Fibroid Center

Fibroids, benign swellings in the muscles of the uterus, are common in women. About one in four women may develop fibroids in the uterus. Typically, these fibroids are painful and can contribute to heavy menstrual periods. Traditionally, surgery for fibroids could lead to hemorrhaging and a longer hospital stay. Robotic surgery is the latest technology for treating fibroids, with the most important benefit, a faster recovery.

At the Fibroid Center (in the BronxCare Health and Wellness Center), the staff first evaluate and diagnose the problem. When robotic surgery is determined to be necessary, it is performed in BronxCare’s state-of-the-art OR.
