Dr. Bhavna Balar, is Chief, Division of Gastroenterology and Program Director for the Gastroenterology Fellowship at Bronx-Lebanon. Her specialty areas include general gastroenterology, colonoscopy,and endoscopy, as well as general GI conditions, human reflex disorders and liver disease. Dr. Balar treats patients with abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea, as well as hepatitis and gall stones.
Dr. Balar and the Division of Gastroenterology are providing the community with comprehensive clinical care in addressing gastrointestinal diseases and related problems. "We perform lifesaving endoscopic procedures and take pride in being a major center for preventing and detecting colorectal cancer at an early state,"stated Dr. Balar.
A state of the art endoscopic center staffed by eight board certified faculty members performed more than 7,300 procedures in 2012. Patients with Hepatitis C and B are also treated, with the aim of preventing cirrhosis and complications resulting from liver disease.
As a physician at Bronx Lebanon for more than ten years, Dr. Balar also maintains a special interest in its academic program. She continues to teach the medical fellows and residents. In terms of her educational background, Dr. Balar completed her residency and fellowship at Bronx-Lebanon. She is board certified in Gastroenterology.
