Michele Flournoy, BronxCare’s new Assistant Vice President and Director, Human Resources, is a highly experienced Human Resources professional with an outstanding and exemplary record of accomplishments. She also has extensive experience in labor relations and labor negotiations with the 1199, SNA, and CIR Unions. Ms. Flournoy is now directing her efforts towards continued alignment of the BronxCare Human Resources platform with the goal of supporting the overall organization, including all departments and employees. “I will be looking towards processing improvements, particularly in recruitment and leave management, in addition to maintaining productive relationships and open lines of communication with our labor union partners,” stated Ms. Flournoy.
In her previous position at Kingsbrook Jewish Medical Center, Ms. Flournoy led the Human Resources, Employee Health Services, and Volunteer Departments. As a key member of its management team, Ms. Flournoy was appointed to the position of Executive Director, Human Resources, and was an integral part of the transformation of the hospital and formation of the new Brooklyn Health Care System that includes Kingsbrook. Within a short period of time, she renegotiated brokers’ contracts for the delivery of health care plans that resulted in significant savings and medical coverage enhancements, as well as revamped HRIS systems that manage data for payroll and human resources electronic records. In addition, Ms. Flournoy served as Trustee for the Advisory Board for the Nursing Retirement Plan, which achieved significant changes to improve the delivery for the plan. She also served as a member of Kingsbrook’s Advisory and Trustee Committee for the Legacy and Retirement Plans.
Throughout her career, Ms. Flournoy has held senior level positions at major health care organizations, including the Institute for Family Health, Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Montefore Medical Center, New York Presbyterian Hospital, the Manhattan Eye Ear and Throat Hospital, and St. Luke’s Roosevelt Hospital. She also worked in a volunteer capacity with the Brooklyn District Attorney’s Offce and U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, mediating court referrals and employment disputes.
Ms. Flournoy received her Bachelor’s degree in Education from Roosevelt University in Chicago and Master’s degree in Industrial Labor Relations from New York Institute of Technology. She is originally from Chicago. Ms. Flournoy also considers herself to be an artist working in mixed media, including oil painting, watercolors, sculpture, and ceramics. In addition, she is an avid reader with a particular interest in autobiographies of historical figures.
