Charbel Y. Ishak (Isaac), M.D., MBA, DABR, is a Professor and Chairman of Radiology and Radiation Safety Officer at BronxCare Health System, Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai. Dr. Ishak earned his medical degree from the Lebanese University School of Medicine and then completed a postdoctoral pathway as a Physician Researcher in Musculoskeletal Diseases and Imaging, with Surgery training at New York University teaching hospitals. This was followed by a Radiology residency at the Zucker School of Medicine at Hofstra University teaching hospitals–Northwell and Nassau County Medical Center. He subsequently completed a fellowship in Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology at NewYork-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical College and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center, as well as certifications in Neuroradiology, Breast Imaging, Nuclear Imaging, and Musculoskeletal Imaging from the American College of Radiology.
Dr. Ishak earned an MBA in Health Services Administration and Management with High Distinction from Hofstra University’s Zarb School of Business in New York. It is noteworthy that Dr. Ishak is double board-certified in Diagnostic Radiology as well as in Vascular and Interventional Radiology from the American Board of Radiology. He is also an active member, mentor, and reviewer at the Society of Interventional Radiology, as well as an Oral Board Examiner at the American Board of Radiology.
As a leader in the field, Dr. Ishak is taking on a pivotal role in advancing the highest level of Interventional and Diagnostic Radiology services for BronxCare’s patients and the community. He is responsible for a department that offers highly specialized and technologically advanced imaging services, 24/7. His skilled team of radiologists, nurse practitioners, physician assistants, technologists, and nurses provide this wide range of needed radiological services. Dr. Ishak is also involved in ensuring compliance with regulatory standards as well as reinforcing and developing policies and procedures related to radiation safety for patients and hospital-wide staff. “BronxCare's physicians depend on our proven ability to provide them with the radiologic images and reports needed to make an accurate diagnosis and assessment to determine the appropriate treatment for their patients,” stated Dr. Ishak.
BronxCare, an affiliate of the Icahn School of Medicine in New York City, is redefining vascular care in the Bronx with its state-of-the-art Interventional Radiology service delivering cutting-edge treatment for the full spectrum of venous thromboembolism—from life-threatening pulmonary embolisms to complex deep venous thrombosis. Leveraging Computer Assisted Vacuum Thrombectomy (CAVT), an advanced minimally invasive technology, faster and effective clot removal is being provided. Under the leadership of Dr. Ishak, BronxCare is rapidly emerging as a regional referral hub and premier training site, bringing world-class expertise and transformative outcomes directly to our community.
BronxCare is moving forward with the planned construction of a state-of-the-art, stroke-thrombectomy–capable center featuring a new biplane fluoroscopy suite—an investment that will keep life-saving care in the Bronx community. This expansion will reinforce BronxCare’s delivery of advanced, time-critical stroke interventions on site. “The result is simple but powerful: faster treatment, better outcomes, and a stronger, more self-sufficient health care home for the Bronx,” stated Dr. Ishak.
As his Department of Radiology moves forward, Dr. Ishak is continually striving to make sure that patients are highly satisfied—before, during, and after their exams and procedures. “We are clearly accomplishing this goal for them,” stated Dr. Ishak.
