Dr. Charbel Ishak, Chairman and Radiation Safety Officer, Radiology, is taking an important leadership role in advancing the highest level of Interventional and Diagnostic Radiology services for patients. BronxCare’s Interventional Radiology team now provides close to 1,400 Interventional Radiology procedures annually. These procedures include biopsies and interventions related to chest, gastrointestinal, oncology, and vascular diseases, as well as women’s health, dialysis access, and pain management, among numerous other areas. “The range of conditions that can be treated through Interventional Radiology is continually expanding and represents an excellent and cost effective treatment approach for non-surgical candidates,” stated Dr. Ishak.
Before coming to the United States in 2003, Dr. Ishak attended the Lebanese University School of Medicine, where he earned his medical degree. He continued his medical education at New York University Hospital, completing a post-doctoral fellowship, as well as internship in General Surgery. This was followed by a Radiology residency at Nassau University Hospital and additional specialized training in Cardiovascular and Interventional Radiology at New York-Presbyterian Weill Cornell Medical College and Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center. Dr. Ishak also earned an MBA in Health Services Administration from Hofstra University. It is noteworthy that Dr. Ishak is double board-certified in Vascular and Interventional Radiology from the American Board of Radiology. He is also a widely recognized author and recipient of numerous awards.
