BronxCare’s new Cancer Center represents an important milestone in its continuing efforts to address the many challenges associated with this life threatening and most serious disease.
The Cancer Center is a state-of-the-art facility that occupies more than 10,000 square feet of space for medical oncology, surgical oncology, and support services. It includes an expanded treatment area with a dedicated chemotherapy infusion suite, as well as modern and user-friendly registration and reception areas. An onsite and specialized pharmacy is also available to patients. There, board certified oncology pharmacists prepare and dispense chemotherapy, in partnership with BronxCare’s medical oncologists. In addition, BronxCare now offers advanced radiation oncology care on campus, further broadening and reinforcing the scope of its cancer services.
Dr. Kevin R. Jain joins us as the Director of the BronxCare Cancer Center and Section Chief of Medical Oncology and Hematology. Dr. Jain is a highly renowned and experienced specialist in the treatment of gynecologic malignancies, gastrointestinal oncology, lung cancer and lymphoma, among other oncology areas. Prior to joining BronxCare, he served on the faculty of Yale Medical Group at Yale New Haven Hospital.
Dr. Jain is confident that the Cancer Center will have a positive and significant impact in improving accessibility to a wide range of diagnostic and treatment services, all in one location, an important benefit to the Bronx community. “We have assembled an expert team of physicians, nurses, and health professionals that truly understand how to provide the high quality and compassionate care our patients and their families need and deserve,” stated Dr. Jain.
Cancer Center staff also work in close collaboration with BronxCare’s primary care providers, medical, surgical, and gynecologic subspecialists, radiation oncologists, and other caregivers. “Our overriding goal is to achieve the best possible outcomes for patients through a true continuum of care, and we are clearly moving in this direction,” stated Dr. Jain.
More than 30,000 patient visits are expected to be provided annually at the Cancer Center, a number that is projected to further grow, based on the continuing needs of the Bronx community for this service.
