The Division of Primary Care and Preventive Medicine, under the leadership of Dr. Abayomi Salako, is taking a pivotal role in delivering comprehensive patient-centered primary care. “We are a conduit for a health delivery system that is also providing care at the right time, and in the right place, to meet the needs of our patients,” stated Dr. Salako.
As part of its commitment to strengthen primary care, the department has targeted its efforts towards chronic disease management and caring for the entire patient population. The division is also addressing health literacy issues through a Community Health Worker Program. “With the assistance of a Health Resources & Services Administration (HRSA) sponsored grant, we have enhanced Ambulatory Care education to train the primary care workforce of the future,” stated Dr. Salako.
