Supplemental Application Materials:

The BronxCare Department of Ophthalmology does not review any supplemental materials sent directly to the Department. All application materials should be submitted directly to SF Match. Please do not send any information directly to the Department.

Information about the USMLE Step 2:

The BronxCare Department of Ophthalmology will consider all applicants for interviews, regardless of whether or not they have taken the USMLE Step 2 at the time of their application. However, applicants must pass the USMLE Steps 2 and 3 prior to the start of their residency.
 

Eligibility:

Applicants are eligible for appointment to the Department of Ophthalmology if they meet one of the following requirements: 

  • Graduate of a U.S. or Canadian medical school accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education.
  • Graduate of colleges of osteopathic medicine in the U.S. accredited by the American Osteopathic Association.
  • Graduates of medical school outside of the United States and Canada who either:
    (i) Have a currently valid certificate from the Education Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates prior to appointment, or
    (ii) Have a full and unrestricted license to practice medicine in a U.S. licensing jurisdiction in which they are in training.

Prior to commencing BronxCare’s Ophthalmology residency program, the trainee must complete the required PGY-1 Ophthalmology-focused Transitional Year program under the auspices of the Department of Family Medicine at BronxCare (separate application process required).
