Resident and medical student education is at the core of the department’s mission. “We continue to be successful in recruiting high quality residents through the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) match,” stated Dr. Peter Sherman, Chairman, Pediatrics. The department is also a teaching site for the American University of the Caribbean, St. George’s University, and CUNY School of Medicine. College and social work students also regularly rotate through the department. Additionally, Pediatric residents and medical students participate in interactive workshops on Cultural Competence which provide training on such issues as cultural diversity, health literacy, social determinants of health, and trauma-informed care.
