Application Process & Requirements

Our psychiatry residency program fully abides by ACGME guidelines and welcomes applications from U.S., Canadian, and international candidates. All applications must be submitted through the Electronic Residency Application Service (ERAS).
 

Timeline: Applications open via ERAS in September should be submitted promptly for timely consideration. Interviews are granted during the fall and winter, with final offers made through pre-match offers, based on rolling admission.

Requirements:

  • A completed M.D. or D.O. degree from an accredited medical school, or status as a senior medical student in a U.S., Canadian, or international institution.
  • A first pass on USMLE Step 1 and USMLE Step 2 CK for M.D. applicants, and COMLEX Level 1 and 2 for D.O. applicants.
  • Minimum of three letters of recommendation, preferably one from faculty affiliated with the department or from a direct clinical experience in the U.S.
  • International Medical Graduates must provide Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG) Certification and appropriate immigration status (U.S. citizenship, permanent resident, or eligibility for J-1 or H-1B visa sponsorship).
  • Applicants must submit required documentation, including medical school transcripts, a personal statement, CV, and letters of recommendation via ERAS. 

Selection Criteria:

  • Applications are reviewed for academic excellence, clinical competence, and commitment to psychiatry (including research and publications in the field).
  • Interviews are offered based on scholarship, leadership, and contributions to diversity.
  • All accepted candidates must meet current ACGME competency evaluations as part of the onboarding process.
  • Step 3 completion for International Medical Students, graduating prior to the current application cycle is encouraged (not compulsory).
  • Applicants must have graduated within four years of applying. Otherwise, the candidate must have completed a residency in their home country and have an impressive clinical or academic experience in psychiatry.
