Welcome to the Department of Psychiatry at BronxCare Health System, a department defined by excellence, innovation, and a deep community connection. As Chairman, Psychiatry, I am honored to lead a team dedicated to delivering outstanding mental health care while training the next generation of psychiatrists and fellows.
Our program includes 29 residents, 11 fellows, and 40 attending psychiatrists, as well as a teaching faculty committed to education, mentorship, and research. Together, we foster an intellectually stimulating environment grounded in compassion and collaboration.
Training at BronxCare offers breadth and depth across settings that reflect the full continuum of psychiatric care. Our Adult Inpatient Psychiatry Service has 79 beds and our Child and Adolescent Inpatient Unit has 25 beds, offering clinical exposure to acute and long-term treatment. A new Adult 20-bed Inpatient Psychiatry Unit will soon be opened, expanding our capacity to meet the growing needs of the community.
Residents and fellows gain valuable experiences across wide-ranging settings, from our Comprehensive Psychiatric Emergency Program and Mobile Crisis Unit to a Consultation-Liaison Service, where psychiatry meets medicine through an interdisciplinary approach involving residents working alongside Internists, Surgeons, and Nurses. We are also providing our residents with hands-on training in Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation, a modern evidence-based treatment for depression and other psychiatric conditions. Additionally, our Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship Program continues to provide advanced training in evidence-based therapies, family systems, and community-focused initiatives, supported by an exceptional team of clinicians, nurses, psychologists, and integrative therapists.
BronxCare’s Life Recovery Center also offers residents an added dimension to their training experience. It is one of the few facilities in New York State to combine inpatient, outpatient, and residential treatment programs at one location. The Life Recovery Center provides comprehensive addiction services, including detoxification and rehabilitation, with a unique Residential Program that offers a recovery-oriented environment that is contributing to independence and wellness.
