In her leadership role as Chief Medical Information Officer, Dr. Christina Koizumi, has made significant progress in transforming BronxCare’s Management Information System (MIS) and its Electronic Health Record program into a most important clinical, administrative, and analytical resource. “The challenge for us is to make our computer systems as user friendly as possible, while integrating all types of often complex information,” stated Dr. Koizumi. As she moves forward to accomplish this goal, Dr. Koizumi utilizes the hospital's MIS and Allscripts support team for making the necessary refinements and inputing clinical information into the MIS System now in place at BronxCare. She is also actively involved on the hospital’s MIS Steering Committee and Subcommittees, in terms of identifying strengths and making recommendations regarding areas for improvement.

Dr. Koizumi attributes the successful outcomes being achieved in the MIS area to the “strong team efforts and spirit of collaboration in place at BronxCare.” She works closely with the MIS team, Clinical and Nursing Informatics leadership, as well as the medical and administrative staff throughout the hospital.

When it comes to patient care, Dr. Koizumi remains committed to retaining her status as an Attending Physician in the Department of Medicine. Dr. Koizumi has cared for patients with HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis C, and general Primary Care, since she first came to BronxCare Health System in 2005. Her subsequent roles and additional responsibilities as Medical Director, HIV/HCV, Co-Infection Clinic, and Mobile Primary Care programs; Co-Chair, Quality Improvement Committee; and Co-Director, Family Focus Project have further reinforced her desire and passion for practicing medicine. “It is important to me to continue clinical care as the practice of medicine and serving our community is my number one priority. It is also valuable to maintain this hands on experience in my role as Chief Medical Information Officer,” stated Dr. Koizumi. She is applying the lessons learned from these patient experiences as a framework for moving forward in the MIS area.

"Our accomplishments in implementing a paperless Electronic Health Record and Computerized Physician Order Entry, among other advancements are optimizing patient care at the inpatient, outpatient, and community settings, and that is most satisfying to me."
